Every player
deserves a teammate.
The Teammate Project supports kids who need cleats, equipment, registration fees, and gear to play soccer. Your gift to the fund makes sure a real kid takes the field.
Real kids. Real teams.
Right here in Hampton Roads.
How it works
Four steps to put a kid in the game.
A simple system designed to protect privacy, honor dignity, and get kids on the field fast.
Partners refer a kid
Schools, coaches, and youth programs identify kids who need support to play.
You give to the fund
Your gift goes into The Teammate Project fund, ready to cover gear, fees, or equipment as needs come up.
A kid gets on the field
We purchase what each kid needs — cleats, shin guards, a uniform, league fees — and they're game-day ready.
The team grows
Every player we support joins our roster of teammates. The fund makes the next kid possible.

Give to the fund
Fuel the next teammate.
The Teammate Project fund covers cleats, gear, uniforms, and registration fees for Hampton Roads kids referred by trusted partners. Your gift goes directly where it's needed most — the moment a kid is identified.
Shin guards & socks
The basics every player needs to step on the field safely.
A fresh pair of cleats
Game-ready cleats sized to fit a kid who's been borrowing or going without.
A full uniform kit
Jersey, shorts, socks, shin guards, and cleats — everything a player wears on game day.
A full season covered
Everything above plus league registration fees. One kid, one full season of soccer.
Or give any amount that's right for you.
Every dollar goes to The Teammate Project fund and helps a real Hampton Roads kid play. 100% goes to players — none to overhead.
Our promise
Protecting privacy. Honoring dignity.
To respect the privacy and safety of the children we support, we do not share photos or personal details of players receiving support unless a parent or guardian signs a photo release agreement.
Each jersey represents a real child whose access to sport was made possible through community generosity. Our focus is on creating opportunity — not exposure.
Where players come from
Identified by trusted partners.
Players are referred to The Teammate Project through our network of schools, coaches, and nonprofit partners — adults who already know the child and recognize the gap.
Every player has an existing trusted relationship in their corner. Your gift to the fund plugs directly into that — no awkward intake, no exposure of need, no gatekeeping.
Players are referred by
- School counselors & teachers
- Youth coaches
- Nonprofit youth programs
- Community organizations
- Trusted family advocates
Refer a player or request support
Refer a child — or request help for your own.
Whether you're a parent asking for support for your own child, or a coach, teacher, or advocate referring a kid you know — send us a note and we'll work with you directly, confidentially.
🔒 Every request is handled privately. We never share names or photos without a parent or guardian's written permission.
Common questions
Quick answers.
How does my gift to the fund get used?
Every dollar goes into The Teammate Project fund, which we use to purchase cleats, shin guards, uniforms, soccer balls, and pay league registration fees for kids referred to us by trusted partners.
Because needs come up year-round, your gift may help one kid right away, or be combined with others' gifts to cover a kid identified next month. Either way, 100% goes directly to players.
Can I give in someone's name or honor?
Yes. When you give, you can add a name or note to dedicate your gift to someone — a coach, a family member, a former teammate. We'll send acknowledgment to anyone you specify (we just need their address).
Will I know who my gift helped?
To protect each child's privacy, we don't share names or photos by default. With parent or guardian approval, we may share a photo of the player game-day ready. No approval, no problem — the kid still gets everything they need.
You'll receive program updates and impact stories so you can see how the fund is being used across Hampton Roads.
Are gifts tax-deductible?
Yes. For The Players Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN: 39-2341465). Your gift is tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. You'll receive a confirmation email that serves as your receipt.
My kid (or one I know) needs support. How do I refer?
If you're a parent, coach, teacher, school counselor, or community organization who knows a child who'd benefit, use our player support request above or email us directly at info@fortheplayersfoundation.net. We work with referring adults directly to confirm needs and add the player to the program confidentially.
Take a position
Be someone's teammate.
There's a kid out there with their cleats laced up and nowhere to play. Be the reason they get to take the field this season.
