What It Is

Score More Goals™ helps schools and communities activate existing green spaces into safe, inclusive areas for movement and teamwork through anchored soccer goals and shared play equipment.

Why It Matters

Safe access to play supports physical health, emotional well-being, engagement, and belonging for students and families.

Impact

Each site reaches hundreds of individuals annually, creating visible community connection and sustained opportunities for outdoor play.

    Pilot Site for Score More Goals™‍ Soccer Goal #1

    On the playground at Alanton Elementary, kids don’t just run — they chase dreams, laughter, and each other. This fall, Alanton will be the first site for Score More Goals™, with anchored soccer goals turning empty grass into a real field. Teachers will receive Goal Cards for short bursts of movement and mindfulness, helping students reset during the day. Families will be invited to after-school play nights, creating connections that reach beyond the classroom.

    Alanton represents the starting line: safe, daily play for students, tools for teachers, and a community that’s stronger together.

    Expanding free access to play across Hampton Roads.

    Beyond Alanton, more schools across Hampton Roads are preparing to join Score More Goals™. For every school added, hundreds of students will gain a safe and reliable place to play. The vision is clear: neighborhoods where every child has a place to play soccer!

    VB Parks & Recreation is currently conducting school site reviews to identify the best ground locations for the next soccer goal. We’re excited to keep this project moving forward.

Soccer for All

This is bigger than one school — we’re building access across Hampton Roads.

While our pilot projects may start with VB school sites, our mission is broader: more goals, more pitches, and more free places to play for kids and families throughout Hampton Roads. If you want to help bring this model to your neighborhood, we’d love to connect.

Current Milestones

  • Done Pilot Site Selected: Alanton Elementary has been approved as our first location.
  • Done Parks & Recreation Review: Site walk-arounds are underway to check grass fields, space, and ground conditions for anchored soccer goals.
  • Done Select Safe, Approved Goals: Determine which model best fits Alanton’s needs and meets safety standards.
  • In Progress Raise Funds & Awareness: Engage the community through events and donor outreach to support the project.
  • In Progress Apply for Grants: Continue pursuing local and national grants to help fund future sites.
  • Done Purchase Goals: Order the approved, city-compliant soccer goals for installation.
  • Not Started Installation: Install the goals following all safety guidelines.
  • Planning Phase Kickoff Celebration: Celebrate the school’s new goals and recognize event sponsors and donors.
