The questions we get most often

Start here.

These are the questions we hear most from donors, parents, schools, and community members. If your answer is here, you're already 90% of the way there.

Are donations tax-deductible? +

Yes. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, your donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Our EIN is 39-2341465. You'll automatically receive a confirmation email after your donation that serves as your receipt.

Where does my money actually go? +

Your donation funds the work directly:

  • Equipment — refurbished goals, balls, cones, training gear
  • Site activation — turf, lining, netting, signage, install
  • Programs — youth camps, clinics, and trainings
  • Stewardship — keeping sites maintained and accessible long-term

We're a volunteer-led foundation that runs lean — your gift goes into the work.

How can I volunteer? +

We're always looking for help. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Build days at activation sites
  • Camp and clinic support
  • Event volunteers for Kick for a Cause
  • Social media, photography, and storytelling
  • Equipment drives and cleat collection
  • Fundraising and outreach

Email info@fortheplayersfoundation.net to let us know what you'd like to bring.

Can I nominate a place for the Network? +

Yes — and your nomination might be the next site we activate. Anyone can nominate: parents, coaches, teachers, neighbors, principals. Nominate a site here in just a few minutes.

Section 01

About the Foundation.

Who we are, where we work, and what drives us.

What is For The Players Foundation? +

For The Players Foundation is a Hampton Roads-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to expanding youth soccer access. We build, steward, and program soccer spaces that prioritize access, safety, and meaningful play for kids in school and community settings.

Our mission is simple: every kid deserves a field to call home.

Where do you work? +

We work across Hampton Roads, Virginia — including Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, and surrounding communities. We partner with schools, neighborhoods, churches, parks, and rec centers to identify spaces where more kids can play.

Are you a registered 501(c)(3)? +

Yes. For The Players Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our EIN is 39-2341465. Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Who runs the Foundation? +

The Foundation is led by Christin Golich, Ed.D., our Executive Director and Founder. We work closely with a network of partners, supporters, and volunteers across Hampton Roads to identify needs and activate sites.

What programs do you run? +

We run three core programs:

  • The More Play Network — building and activating soccer spaces at schools and community sites.
  • The Teammate Project — sponsoring kids who need cleats, equipment, and support to play.
  • Cleats for Kids — collecting and distributing gently used cleats to youth players across Hampton Roads.

We also run Kick for a Cause, our annual community soccer tournament that raises funds for the next site activation.

Section 02

Donating & your impact.

Where your dollars go, how to give, and what to expect.

How can I make a donation? +

The easiest way is through our online donation page, where you can give any amount one-time or set up recurring weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual giving.

For larger gifts, donor-advised funds, stock transfers, planned giving, or in-kind donations, please email info@fortheplayersfoundation.net directly so we can work with you on the best approach.

Can I set up a recurring donation? +

Absolutely. Our donation form lets you choose weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual recurring gifts. Recurring donors are the backbone of our work — they let us plan, stay sustainable, and respond quickly when sites need us.

What does a specific dollar amount actually do? +

Here's the rough breakdown:

  • $25 — A soccer ball at a child's feet during recess.
  • $50 — Equipment that keeps kids active and engaged.
  • $100 — A special soccer day for students.
  • $250 — Coach-led sessions on teamwork and leadership.
  • $500 — Activation-level support for a build, launch, or community play day.
  • $1,000 — One Activation Day: moving a space from underused to ready for play.
  • $2,500 — One Site Fully Activated: planning, setup, and launch.
  • $5,000+ — Lasting access: accelerating multiple sites and strengthening long-term stewardship.
Can I give in-kind donations (turf, equipment, services)? +

Yes — in-kind donations are huge for us. We accept:

  • Artificial turf and field materials
  • Soccer goals and netting (new or refurbished)
  • Equipment (balls, cones, pinnies, training gear)
  • Services (site prep, install, lining, hauling, signage, photography)
  • Gently used cleats for our Cleats for Kids program

In-kind donors receive the same recognition as cash sponsors at the equivalent value. Email info@fortheplayersfoundation.net to talk about what you can bring.

Will I get a receipt? +

Yes. You'll automatically receive an email receipt after your donation. Keep it for your tax records. If you don't see it, check your spam folder or email info@fortheplayersfoundation.net and we'll send another.

Are donations refundable? +

All donations are final. If there's an issue with your donation — a duplicate charge, an incorrect amount, or anything else — please contact info@fortheplayersfoundation.net within 30 days and we'll work with you to make it right.

What does "cover the fee" mean? +

Online donations carry a small processing fee (about 3%) that the payment processor takes before the rest of the donation reaches us. The "cover the fee" option lets you add that 3% to your gift so 100% of your intended donation reaches our work. It's optional — totally up to you.

Section 03

The More Play Network.

How sites get activated, where we've been, and what's next.

What is The More Play Network? +

The More Play Network is our flagship program — a growing collection of activated soccer sites at schools, community centers, and partner locations across Hampton Roads. Each site represents a new place where kids can play, train, and belong.

We follow a simple three-step process: find the need, build the partnership, create more play.

Which sites are activated right now? +

We currently have two activated sites:

  • Blair Middle School (Norfolk Public Schools) — activated February 2026, serving 600+ students with daily play access.
  • Alanton Elementary (Virginia Beach City Public Schools) — activated March 2026, with 2 goals placed for K–5 community use.

We're actively working on the next site. Visit The More Play Network page for the latest.

How is a site chosen for activation? +

We follow our three-step process for every site:

  • Find the need — we identify schools, neighborhoods, and open spaces where more access to soccer can make a real difference. Community nominations are a major source of candidates.
  • Build the partnership — we align with local leaders and hosts on access, scheduling, stewardship, and long-term care.
  • Create more play — we activate the space with equipment, infrastructure, and ongoing support.

Want to nominate a site? Tell us where it should go.

How long does it take to activate a site? +

It varies. Smaller activations — like placing refurbished goals at a school — can happen in a few weeks once we have the partnership and funding. Larger builds (full pitches, turf installs, full community sites) can take several months from concept to opening day.

Every site is different. We work at the pace that's right for the school, community, and the donors making it possible.

What goes into activating a site? +

Depending on the scope, an activation can include:

  • Refurbished goals (restored by Virginia Beach Tech & Career Education Center students)
  • Site prep and grading
  • Artificial turf or field markings
  • Backstop netting and safety infrastructure
  • Training equipment (balls, cones, pinnies, gear)
  • Sponsor signage and field information
  • Long-term stewardship and maintenance
What happens after a site is activated? +

Activation is the start, not the end. After a site opens, we work with the host (school, church, community partner) to keep it well-stewarded. That can include:

  • Running camps, clinics, and community events
  • Providing ongoing equipment replacement
  • Coordinating volunteer days for maintenance
  • Featuring the site in storytelling and impact reporting

Our goal is for every activated site to become a lasting fixture in the community.

Section 04

Partners & sponsors.

For schools, businesses, and organizations that want to back the work.

How do I become a partner? +

Email info@fortheplayersfoundation.net with a quick note about who you are and what you'd like to bring. Whether you're a school looking to be activated, a business looking to sponsor, a faith community offering space, or a service provider with skills to donate — there's a path for you.

Can my school or organization be a host site? +

Yes — and we'd love to talk. Schools, community centers, churches, and other host organizations are at the heart of every activation. The best path is to nominate your site or email us directly to start the conversation.

What does business sponsorship include? +

Business sponsors back The More Play Network through cash gifts, in-kind donations, or services. Recognition typically includes:

  • Field signage and on-site visibility
  • Social media features and spotlight posts
  • Recognition in newsletters, the Foundation website, and at events
  • Inclusion at camps, clinics, and community days

We tailor sponsorship packages to each business — email info@fortheplayersfoundation.net to discuss what makes sense for you.

  • Virginia Beach City Public Schools
  • Norfolk Public Schools
  • Chesapeake Public Schools
  • Blair Middle School
  • Alanton Astros

  • Open Goal
  • Mercer Transportation
  • JM Froehler Construction

Can I sponsor a specific site? +

Yes — site-specific sponsorships are a great way to back the Network with your name attached to a particular activation. Site sponsors receive featured recognition tied to the site they fund. Email info@fortheplayersfoundation.net to talk about which sites are open for sponsorship.

Section 05

Getting involved.

For volunteers, families, and anyone ready to show up.

How do I donate cleats? +

Our Cleats for Kids program collects gently used cleats and gets them on the feet of kids who need them. Visit our Cleats for Kids page for drop-off info, or email us to coordinate a pickup if you have a larger donation.

Can my child get cleats or equipment through the Foundation? +

Yes. Our Teammate Project sponsors kids who need cleats, equipment, and support to play. There's no income test — if you need help getting your kid on the field, email info@fortheplayersfoundation.net and we'll work with you confidentially.

How can I follow your work? +

The best ways to stay connected:

Can I host a fundraiser for the Foundation? +

Absolutely. Fun runs, birthday fundraisers, restaurant nights, tournament fundraisers — we love community-led giving. Email info@fortheplayersfoundation.net to let us know what you're planning and we'll help where we can with materials, social shares, and impact info.
